How We Learn Now
Learning at Home - 2020-20201
In 5th Grade math small groups, students played games that encouraged teamwork and tested their skills and ability.
2nd Grade students traditionally do a Farmer's Market in the cafeteria for hundreds of their peers. This year they researched their food and presented in a little bit of a different way - but still showed how far they have come!
In Ms. Russo's 1st Grade science and engineering study, students created a house that the big bad wolf could not knock down using the steps Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve.
During our Facebook Live morning announcements, Mr. Hogan challenged students to learn about our founding document on Constitution Day in September.
PreK students in their "clothing study" --
Learning about something as basic as clothing is a way that preschoolers can connect things they know and understand from their world into things like science (What happens to wet things?) or social studies (Do different cultures wear different clothing?) Using clothes pins strengthens small fingers and hands, which leads to improvements with fine motor skills.
As 8th Graders study "The Outsiders," Ms. Vargas asked students to create fictional social media posts as characters from the classic book. This highlights how students have contextual understanding, showcased in a modern lens.
Students in Ms. Lebron's 2nd Grade started the day with a scavenger hunt to find something green -- a great way to get bodies moving and ready to start the day!
Our Music & Movement teacher, Ms. Jaffrey worked with students via Zoom on an African American gospel song, "Peace Like a River," - with sign language - and they sent in their performances. (Click the image to view the video.)
Learning at Home - Spring 2020
