Field trip to printing press for NY Post/Wall Street Journal

In the 2014-2015 school year, LCCS launched its Model United Nations Club. A rarity at the middle school level, Model UN provides students with a chance to excel in leadership, research, to learn about the world around them, to collaborate with their peers, and to meet other students from around the country.

In Model UN, students research and study United Nations member countries, learning about current events and international issues. At conferences, student delegates are presented with a realistic "International crisis," and they must represent their chosen or assigned country to respond to the crisis, the same way diplomacy works in real life.

Peer Mediation - Students in this group undergo training in conflict resolution and help their peers work out minor problems that can be resolved without school involvement. Say two girls have an argument about name calling, a Peer Mediator will meet with them and help them work out a resolution.

Early Morning Singers: Grades 4-8th Grades.
Under the guidance of Music and Movement teacher Meera Jaffrey, the Early Morning Singers meet weekly to share in their love of music and song. They also perform for community events and to spread goodwill, such as at a local nursing home.

Yearbook - Students in this club design and create the annual Yearbook that is sold at the end of the year. They shoot photos, and design and write text for the book.

National Junior Honor Society: Students in Grades 6-8th are invited to apply to this nationally recognized program of academic excellence and community service.

Gay-Straight Alliance: 4th - 8th Grades

This group, facilitated by the LCCS Counselor, Shanelle Muse, is available for students in Grades 4-8, meets periodically and offers an open forum for students. The motto: "Just bring an open mind, open ears, and open heart." The group's members often spearhead anti-bullying campaigns or participate in nationwide consciousness-raising efforts like Day of Silence.

In 2016 we inducted our first members into the Spanish language honor's society, Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad. Students must maintain a high grade in the class, and have active participation and good attendance. Thank you to advisor Andres Nunez.
