Ms. Stover (ELA 5th and 6th Grades)

Welcome to Ms.Stover's 5th and 6th grade ELA class website! My name is Ms.Stover. This is my first year at LCSS! In my free time I love to go to the movies, travel and hike.
Readers are leaders
The curriculum for this course aligns with the Common Core Standards for 5th & 6th Grade Language Arts with appropriate accommodations and supports put in place to make each student successful. Students will focus on comprehension and analytical reading skills through the study of a variety of authors and genres. Students will learn how successful readers think and visualize when they read, interact with, and examine text.

In writing, we will focus on construction of research simulation tasks,  literary analysis tasks and narrative tasks. Additionally, we will learn how to write meaningful and concise sentences, short responses and summaries.

Students will also be using The Daily 5 structure. The Daily 5 is a literacy structure that teaches independence and gives students the skills needed to create a lifelong love of reading and writing. It consists of five tasks: read to self, work on writing, read to someone, listen to reading, and word work. During this time we will also be focusing on grammar, vocabulary and spelling.

Students individual goals and needs will be met through small group and one-on-one teaching.

Thank you for visiting Ms.Stover's Grade 5 and 6 ELA website! I hope you will visit often and that it will be a meaningful resource for you.
